“Commitment to Serve”, the motto of Charter Oak Home Care, reflects the Judeo Christian model of love and service which inspired our founding and motivates us today. Helping clients remain in the comfort of home is our top priority. We believe our skilled and compassionate team members can make the world a better place by caring for one person at a time in their home.
History of Charter Oak Home Care
“My family has a long history of taking care of our older family members. At age twenty, I helped my cancer ridden, deaf grandmother ambulate from her bedroom to the bathroom at night through a buzzer device in my adjoining room. Twenty years later, I left my marketing position to assist my father in the final months of caring for my mother who was battling bone cancer. At the wish of both of these much loved women, they were cared for at home by those who loved them dearly.
With this family background, I started Charter Oak Home Care dedicated to serving the needs of elders who choose to remain in their own homes, cared for by our compassionate family of caregivers. Our motto ‘Commitment To Serve’ remains as true today as it was so many years ago.”
Meet The Team
Newt Schoenly
Newt Schoenly
Newt grew up in a traditional multi-generational family. He cared for his cancer ridden grandmother in the late sixties and his mother with the same cancer in 1982. He founded Charter Oak Home Care in 1985 and has continued it’s motto “Commitment to Serve” to the present, bringing quality home care to Connecticut’s seniors for over 33 years. Prior to Charter Oak Home Care, he had served in the Hospital Division of Service Master Corp and worked in Nursing homes, all of which inspired him to help people remain independent in the security and comfort of their own homes. Newt finds great satisfaction in knowing that our people are serving our clients with care, dignity and diligence.
Conant Schoenly
Conant Schoenly
Conant is responsible for Charter Oak Home Care’s marketing and business strategy. He brings a variety of experience most recently serving as Assistant Director at Georgetown University overseeing analytics and business intelligence. Prior to his tenure at Georgetown, Conant spent several years working for a management consulting firm in Washington DC.
Charter Oak’s mission of service excites him most. Every day Conant comes to work eager to find new ways to help Charter Oak become the best firm possible.
In his spare time, Conant enjoys running, hiking, skiing, traveling and spending time with family. Conant received his MBA from Georgetown University and his BA with honors from Cornell University.
Michelle Parsons
Michelle Parsons
Born and raised in Connecticut, Michelle brings over 15 years of experience in the management of both major home care agencies and continuing care facilities. Michelle understands the needs of our clients and their families and is dedicated to ensuring her team provides excellent care. Michelle oversees the operations of Charter Oak Home Care and works with her team ensuring that each client receives the care they need.
Michelle holds a BS in Marine Biology from the University of Maine. In her spare time, Michelle enjoys spending time with her son, husband, dogs and cat.
Emily Minacci
Emily Minacci
Emily joined Charter Oak Home Care in 2019 bringing with her over 20 years of business and financial operations experience. Emily is primarily responsible for overseeing billing, payroll and screening new technologies to enhance operations while providing counsel to the Charter Oak Leadership Team.
In the past, Emily has worked for Salisbury Bank & Trust as well as several other companies in the Litchfield Region. Emily received her Associates Degree in Business Administration from Northwest Community College.
In her spare time, Emily enjoys spending time with her husband and kids.
Katie Gilmore
Katie Gilmore
Katie plays an important role on our Client Success Team by visiting clients on a regular basis and ensuring we have the best possible client and caregiver matches. Having worked in customer service her entire career most recently for Hartford Hospital, Katie is attuned to the specific needs of each of our clients. Katie believes in the mission of Charter Oak and enjoys the variety of her work and personal connections she is able to form.
When not at work, Katie is busy taking her kids ages 13, 10 and 9 to various sporting events. She also enjoys 4 wheeling with her family and spending time with her 3 dogs.
Alexandra Murphy
Alexandra Murphy
Alex is responsible for spearheading our recruiting efforts. Having worked for Charter Oak Home Care (COHC) for several years as a caregiver, Alex understands first hand the qualities needed in the ideal caregiver. Interviewing, screening and onboarding caregivers is Alex’s expertise. She understands that in order to provide excellent care, we need to attract and retain the best caregivers. In addition to her recruiting responsibilities, Alex supports our Client Success Team.
When she is not working, Alex enjoys spending time with her husband and cats. She also enjoys being creative and crocheting for family and friends.
Kim Tant
Kim Tant
In her role of Field Coordinator, Kim provides direct care and overall care management as needed, she will also assist with caregiver training and client relations. Kim comes to us with experience in both direct care and office work having worked for major home care companies for 15 years prior. Kim has a heart for helping seniors and is excited about the mission of Charter Oak Home Care. When not helping seniors, Kim enjoys spending quality time with her three children and going on camping trips.
