Hospice care is a unique concept that can be difficult for some to understand. Hospice supports people by providing end of life care. Hospice care can also work alongside homecare to provide relief with the things homecare caregivers cannot do like administering medications used in palliative care. Home care and Hospice care can work together wonderfully to give families peace of mind in such a difficult time.
What is Hospice Care?
Hospice care focuses on the comfort, care, and quality of life of a person with an illness who may be approaching end of life. At some point in time when someone has a serious illness it may not be possible to cure it anymore or the client may choose to stop treatments. A hospice care worker can give medicine to help manage symptoms and ease pain. Hospice can also provide homes with medical equipment such as shower chairs, hospital beds, and oxygen tanks. There is also no time limit to how long someone can be on hospice and hospice can be used for as long as it is needed. Hospice care focuses on the aspects of making someone comfortable and providing skilled nursing.
How Does Home Care Work with Hospice?
Home care can work very well alongside hospice care and take care of the tasks that also need to be completed for a client during this time in their life. A home care aide can help with doing chores, running errands, personal care tasks like bathing, dressing, laundry, and providing companionship. Hospice care is there to make your loved one comfortable with medicine and any skilled nursing that may be needed. This is why the two work so wonderfully together and allow your loved ones to have peace of mind in all aspects in such a trying time.
