One of the most meaningful parts of the work we do at Charter Oak Home Care is listening to the life lessons our seniors share. Their advice comes from years of experience, reflection, and resilience—and it often centers on gratitude, connection, and living with purpose.
We asked a few of our clients if they would be willing to share some of their life lessons and below is the wisdom they shared.
Rose Mary B. reminds us how important family, faith, and positivity are in everyday life. She says, “Thank your parents for all the things they do. Tell your parents you love them. Teach about God. Watch positive TV and go to church. Be positive, be around positive people. Not be so stressed or afraid. Go out when you can.” Her words encourage us to slow down, appreciate those who care for us, and choose positivity even during challenging times.
Yvonne S. shares wisdom about individuality, balance, and curiosity. She advises, “Do a family activity. Stick to your own ideals. Take the right path. Be your own individual. Be curious, take up a new interest or a hobby. Help and support others when needed. Go out and enjoy life. Do something other than work.” Her message is a powerful reminder that life is about more than routines—it’s about growth, contribution, and joy.
Susan L. adds a bit of humor while highlighting the lasting impact of advice passed down through generations. She shares: “Always listen to the advice passed down from your elders. My mom used to always tell me to make sure you wear clean underwear no matter what in case you get into an accident.” Her words remind us that even the simplest advice can carry love, care, and wisdom—and sometimes a smile—long after it’s first shared
Together, these lessons reflect what many seniors teach us every day: value your relationships, stay true to yourself, care for others, and make time to truly live. At Charter Oak Home Care, we are honored to support seniors not only in their daily needs, but also in sharing the wisdom that continues to guide and inspire future generations.
